Alesso’s Touching Tribute to Liam Payne Lights Up the Night at EDC Orlando

Written by on November 12, 2024

Many attending the EDC Orlando festival over the weekend witnessed an unforgettable moment when Alesso paused his set to honor the late Liam Payne.

In a tear-jerking display of remembrance, the Swedish electronic music superstar stopped his DJ set to pay tribute to Payne, whose sudden and tragic death has left the music world in a state of mourning. Just before dropping their 2020 collaboration “Midnight” at EDC, Alesso took a moment to address the crowd from the sprawling circuitGROUNDS stage, his voice thick with emotion.

“Hopefully, he can hear us,” Alesso said as his words echoed across a sea of ravers.

The crowd responded with an awe-inspiring gesture, raising their phone lights to the sky in unison and illuminating the night. It was a scene filled with shared grief and respect as Alesso stood solemnly, soaking in the poignant moment before playing the song that once brought the two artists together.

Payne, 31, died on October 16th after reportedly falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital. Three people are currently facing charges for crimes related to his death, according to CNN.

With Payne’s soulful vocals layered over Alesso’s euphoric production, “Midnight” remains a symbol of hope. Released at the height of the pandemic, the track captured the resilience of artists and fans alike during a time when live music was out of reach. The pair even filmed a special music video from separate quarantined locations, highlighting a connection that transcended the sense of physical distance.
