The change of seasons from summer to autumn marks a thrilling time for the electronic dance music community ahead of the annual return of ADE. The iconic Amsterdam Dance Event draws artists, fans and industry professionals from across the globe as it takes over the city with hundreds of events.
Now, organizers have unveiled a series of opening party series to usher in this year’s summit, which is scheduled for October 16-20. The first will take place at one of Amsterdam’s most iconic landmarks, the Van Gogh Museum, where a stripped-back performance by Dutch singer-songwriter Eefje de Visser will take place.
The next event takes a bold approach, blending the new with the old through technology, art and classical music. Audiovisual creative Nick Verstand and Cello Octet Amsterdam have teamed up to design an innovative show, “COCON II,” crafted specially for ADE wherein musicians engage with eight robotic arms to create light shapes. This unique event will take place at the Door Open Space warehouse.
The next ADE opening party fuses jazz and techno for a genre-bending experience at Bimhuis. Greetje Bijma, a renowned free jazz singer, will collaborate with electronic artist Oceanic to perform a daring set. Then, London-based producer LUXE will play a live show meshing electronic and classical music, showcasing unique interplay between these disparate genres.
Lastly, Amsterdam’s Melkweg venue is set to host a tribute to one of the world’s most influential hip-hop producers, the late J Dilla. The Metropole Orkest and composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson will perform their interpretation of Dilla’s works through a new lens to celebrate his 50-year legacy.
In other ADE news, EDM.com will host another edition of our free networking event, “Insider Access” on October 17th. The conference dropped their sprawling first wave lineup last month, featuring Four Tet, Peggy Gou, Jamie Jones and many more.
