MGMT's Retro Ride: "Bubblegum Dog" Unleashes Nostalgia as Fans Anticipate Loss Of Life

What's so good?

The indie scene is buzzing with excitement as indie electro-pop pioneers MGMT are gearing up for a sonic extravaganza with the announcement of their fifth studio album, Loss of Life, set to drop on February 23 via Mom+Pop. This marks the band's first album in six years, following the success of their 2018 album, Little Dark Age

The album, co-produced with Patrick Wimberly and mixed by the seasoned Dave Fridmann, promises a 10-track journey, including a collaboration with Christine and the Queens, marking a historic first for the band. As the anticipation builds, VanWyngarden cheekily hinted at the album's imminent arrival through an anagramic riddle involving a banana and the phrase "elf of soils," playfully weaving humor into the album's promotional trail.

But that's not all for MGMT enthusiasts. In an unexpected twist, the mythical "Bubblegum Dog" has finally been unleashed upon the eager ears of fans. Originating from a Periscope livestream in 2016, the track achieved legendary status in the MGMT fan community, with fans playfully speculating about its content and duration. Contrary to the mythical 30-minute multi-part project, "Bubblegum Dog" is a concise four-and-a-half-minute indie rock journey. Directed by Julia Vickerman and Tom Scharpling, the visual pays homage to ‘90s grunge videos, blending a DIY surreal aesthetic with the irreverent charm of Yo Gabba Gabba and The Mighty Boosh. The duo's humorous acting in the video, according to Vickerman and Scharpling, showcases MGMT's ability to seamlessly blend their musical prowess with a healthy dose of playful absurdity. So, brace yourselves for an MGMT-induced rollercoaster of eclectic sounds and whimsical visuals, as Loss of Life promises to take fans on a journey through the unexpected and the extraordinary.

Server Problems

We were having issues with the stream, it turns out it was a corrupt decoder on the server side.

It took over 48hrs of trouble shooting to come to the conclusion that it was not a DJ/Software issue but was definitely server related.

The server software was updated and re-configured and after testing for a few hours it seems to be stable again, things are fixed (we hope).
